ChatGPT is very funny – especially when you ask it about bananas [#21]

ChatGPT invents a questionable sandwich (and a pastry), writes a Taylor Swift song, and revolutionizes the construction industry.

ChatGPT is very funny – especially when you ask it about bananas [#21]

It's quite challenging to come across good humor in today's world. Fortunately, ChatGPT can be really funny, especially when you give it good prompts. I've used ChatGPT 3.5 (the free version) for my prompts, and the answers are just a little bit... bananas. Enjoy!

1. Professional Sandwich Chef

Prompt

You are a professional chef. Please invent a brand-new sandwich using items that have never before been combined into a sandwich. You will choose ONLY three options from the following list to use in your sandwich: {salt, banana, butter, chicken, potatoes, chocolate, broccoli, salt & pepper chips).

Can you tell me, step-by-step, how to make your brand-new sandwich with ONLY your three chosen ingredients AND whole-wheat bread?

ChatGPT Output

Certainly! For my sandwich, I have chosen banana, broccoli, and salt. Here's how to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of whole-wheat bread
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup cooked broccoli, chopped
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Toast the whole-wheat bread until it's lightly browned and crispy.
  2. While the bread is toasting, prepare the filling. Mash the ripe banana in a small bowl until it forms a spreadable paste.
  3. Once the bread is toasted, spread the mashed banana evenly over one slice of bread.
  4. Layer the cooked broccoli on top of the mashed banana.
  5. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the broccoli.
  6. Carefully place the other slice of bread on top of the broccoli.
  7. Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.

This sandwich may sound like an unusual combination, but the sweetness of the banana pairs surprisingly well with the slightly bitter taste of the broccoli. The pinch of salt enhances the flavors of both ingredients, while the whole-wheat bread adds a nutty, earthy flavor and a satisfying crunch. Enjoy!

Commentary

I'm not very good at cooking, so here I've asked ChatGPT to be a professional chef and build me a three-ingredient sandwich using ONLY the ingredients in my fridge. I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

  • I’m not sure if “whole-wheat bread adds a satisfying crunch” to my sandwich, but hey, I'm not an expert like ChatGPT obviously is.
  • Is “mashing a ripe banana in a small bowl until it forms a spreadable paste” a good cooking tip in general?
  • “The sweetness of the banana pairs surprisingly well with the slightly bitter taste of the broccoli.” I'd say the jury is still out on that one.

2. A Sweet Taylor Swift Single

Prompt

Create a brand new pop song that is written by Taylor Swift about the banana.

ChatGPT Output

Verse 1:
Yellow and curved, you caught my eye
In the grocery store, just passing by
I didn't think much, just picked you up
But now I can't put you down, can't get enough

Chorus:
Banana, oh banana
You make my heart go na-na-na
Peel away my worries and my doubts
Banana, oh banana
You're what love is all about

Verse 2:
From smoothies to bread, you're so versatile
A perfect snack, mile after mile
In a bunch or all alone
You're the sweetest thing I've ever known

Chorus:
Banana, oh banana
You make my heart go na-na-na
Peel away my worries and my doubts
Banana, oh banana
You're what love is all about

Bridge:
Some may say you're just a fruit
But to me, you're so much more
You bring me joy, you bring me youth
I'll always love you to the core

Chorus:
Banana, oh banana
You make my heart go na-na-na
Peel away my worries and my doubts
Banana, oh banana
You're what love is all about

Outro:
Banana, oh banana
You make me sing this silly song-a
I'll never let you go, that's for sure Banana, oh banana
My love for you will forever endure.

Commentary

I suppose that ChatGPT won't replace Swift's songwriting prowess anytime soon. I would, however, pay so much money to see Taylor Swift perform this song.

Here are some notable lyrics:

  • "From smoothies to bread, you're so versatile" — I understand smoothies... but bread seems a little bit weird.
  • "I'll always love you to the core" — last time I checked, bananas don't have cores. Try again, ChatGPT!
  • "In a bunch or all alone" — so, multiple bananas or a single banana?

I wonder: if this were an actual Taylor Swift song, which of her 10 albums would the song fit best into?

3. Revolutionizing the Construction Industry

Prompt

Write a brief to a construction engineer telling them why they should use bananas in some way to construct their skyscraper.

ChatGPT Output

Dear Construction Engineer,

I would like to bring to your attention a unique and innovative idea that could potentially revolutionize the construction industry. Have you ever considered using bananas in the construction of your skyscraper?

Bananas have a number of properties that make them a viable and effective material for construction. For one, they are incredibly strong and durable, thanks to the natural fibers found within their peels. Additionally, they are lightweight and easy to transport, making them a cost-effective and eco-friendly option.

Incorporating bananas into the construction of your skyscraper could also have a number of environmental benefits. Bananas are a renewable resource, and using them in construction could reduce the amount of traditional building materials needed, such as steel or concrete. This could potentially reduce the carbon footprint of your construction project.

Moreover, using bananas in your skyscraper could also be a unique selling point for your project. Imagine being able to boast that your building is the first of its kind, constructed with innovative and sustainable materials like bananas.
I urge you to consider the benefits of using bananas in your construction project. It could be a game-changer for the industry, and could set a precedent for sustainable and innovative building practices.

Sincerely,
ChatGPT

Commentary

Hey, architects — have you ever considered using bananas in the construction of your skyscraper? Here are some reasons you should:

  • "[bananas] are incredibly strong and durable, thanks to the natural fibers found within their peels." — if bananas are incredibly strong and durable, why can't I also consume steel and concrete?
  • "using [bananas] in construction could reduce the amount of traditional building materials needed" — sure, but you'd need tens of thousands of bananas to construct a one-story shack.
  • "imagine being able to boast that your building is the first of its kind, constructed with innovative and sustainable materials like bananas." — you're right, ChatGPT: bananas are truly so innovative.

I would hire ChatGPT as a construction engineer any day of the week.

4. Creating a Banana Pastry

Prompt

I want to create a banana pastry. But I only have ingredients that start with the letter B, T, O, or P. How can I create a great banana pastry? I am fine with an unconventional pastry. Include an ingredient list and a step-by-step process for making the banana pastry. If you use ingredients that start with letters other than B, T, O, or P, I will be sorely disappointed in you. Please ensure you only use ingredients that start with B, T, O, or P.

ChatGPT Output

Challenge accepted! Here's a recipe for a delicious banana pastry using only ingredients that start with the letters B, T, O, or P:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (B)
  • 1/2 cup of oat flour (O)
  • 1/2 cup of almond flour (A substitute for P)
  • 1/4 cup of tahini (T)
  • 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup (Mixture of B and P)
  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil, melted (C and O)
  • 1 tsp of baking powder (B)
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract (V, a substitute for T)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with coconut oil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, oat flour, almond flour, tahini, maple syrup, melted coconut oil, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Stir until everything is well mixed.
  3. Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
  5. Let the pastry cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

You can enjoy this banana pastry on its own, or you can top it with some sliced bananas, chopped nuts, or a drizzle of honey for some extra sweetness.

Commentary

ChatGPT is hilariously terrible at following directions. Some examples:

  • "1/2 cup of almond flour (A substitute for P)" — I am almost certainly sure "almond" starts with an A.
  • "1/4 cup of pure maple syrup (Mixture of B and P) — what does this mean??? Sure, "pure maple syrup" starts with P, but why does it say that "pure maple syrup" is a mixture of B and P??
  • "1 tsp of vanilla extract (V, a substitute for T) — no comment.

ChatGPT also wants me to combine all of my ingredients in a mixing bowl. Is pastry baking really this easy? I should become a pastry chef. The final cherry on top: suggesting that I "top [this banana pastry] with sliced bananas". Yeah! As if I didn't already use 2 ripe bananas in my recipe.
